Allow Me to Rain on the Parade

Mark Streit is 31 and had one good year with a high-scoring team. Expect his 60+ points to fall to around... 30+. Ach, at least it's something. More to come from Garth I'm sure.

Nice tribute to Bates. He was no All-Star, but he was one of the few who gave a shite consistently. There were some years that couldn't have been easy.

So here he is, your newest New York Islander (and yes, the only reason I put this clip here is to check out the hottie French Canadian announcer):

Hey, it's an Islanders' fan who has a knee-jerk negative reaction to a reasonable signing! Are you sure you didn't get lost on your way to the Islandermania boards?

Whatever. It's July. I'm full of hope. And beer. No go away.

I hate to choose sides in a blog family squabble, but I'm gonna have to side with the Reverend. Of the reasonable options, Streit was among the best. Other than Campbell (who might be a little overrated), there weren't a lot of great d-men out there and they clearly needed an experienced d-man to balance out the young and frequently injured corps they have. And, quite frankly, Snow going after anybody who has the words "good on the power play" in his profile is a good thing.

I would've liked it if they got Rolston, too, but the contract the Devils gave him is ridiculous, so I'm fine with that.

Ummm... let's check out the Canadian's roster shall we?

Alexei Kovalev
Tomas Plekanec
Andrei Markov
Andrei Kostitsyn
Christopher Higgins

All had more goals (except Markov) than anyone on the Isles. All I'm saying is that it will be a shock if this guy gets to 40 points. And the defensive lapses will be noticeable.

In the meantime, I'm very happy about Weight--he's just what the Isles young players need.
